Unexmin - Underwater Explorer of Submerged Mines

Within the framework of the UNEXMIN project, a new technology will be developed that will enable the exploration of submerged mines in a completely new way, using autonomous robotic submarines. Many European mines are currently closed and flooded with water, making it impossible to gather geological and other information, which may have been lost over the centuries.

Domestic and Artisan Crafts – Heritage and Modernity

The foundation of this project is based on the fact that innovation has always been essential in all aspects of life in the Idrija region in order for people to survive in the challenging living environment of the Idrija Basin. Both men and women had to be innovative, which led to the continual emergence of various new skills, knowledge, professions, and numerous crafts in our area. Unfortunately, some of these crafts have not been adequately researched or preserved for future generations, nor have they been appropriately presented and promoted.

The Idrija Tourist Board has received the decision on approved funding for the submitted project "Idrija Selected Trademark," in which we are collaborating with the Municipality of Idrija, CUDHg Idrija, the Idrija Municipal Museum, the Idrija Lace-making Association, Jurij Vega Grammar School Idrija, and Bela Ltd. The initial project activities will commence in January 2020.

Let's Discover the Smelting Furnaces

Although the well-researched and studied technical heritage of the mercury mine provides valuable information, the project activities, especially the exploration of smelting sites and the discovery of remains of old smelting furnaces, will contribute important data for the preservation and development of cultural heritage in terms of sustainable development, improved accessibility, and the creation of conditions for new jobs through further development of cultural tourism.

Idrija Compressor station

The building was severely damaged in the last earthquake in 2004, posing a threat to the safety of people and property. As a result, it was included in the Earthquake Consequences Relief Program in Posočje on July 12, 2004. A decision was made, involving experts from various fields, to demolish the damaged structure and construct a replacement building in its place that would meet the requirements of post-earthquake reconstruction, legislation, and safe construction regulations.
